GM Turbo 350 Automatic Transmission Overview In 1969 General Motors and Buick introduced the TH350 automatic transmission to replace the two-speed Super Turbine 300 and Powerglide automatic transmissions. The Turbo 350 transmission, also known as TH350 or THM350 transmission, was used in many medium duty GM and Buick applications up until 1984 when GM began to phase the TH350 out of cars and in 1986 when they phased the transmission out of trucks in replace of the 700R4 automatic transmission. Starting in 1970/1980 model vehicles the TH350-C were engineered to use a lock-up style torque converter, which was very unpopular with rebuilders even with the adaptations on the market. Heavier duty GM applications during the TH350 years used the larger TH400 transmission. The major difference between GM's Turbo 350 and their Turbo 400 automatic transmissions is the TH350 does not have a fixed center support postion halfway through the transmission's geartrain.
